However, prolonged use can cause itching, stinging, red eyes, blurry vision and light sensitivity. This is what&#8217;s known as dry eye syndrome.<\/p>\n<h2>Ways to prevent dry eye syndrome<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><strong> Made-to-measure masks<\/strong>. Look for face masks with a nose wire and adjustable loops so you can adjust the mask to fit your face correctly. You can also place a folded tissue in the upper part of the mask to stop the air escaping.<\/li>\n<li><strong> Eye drops. <\/strong>Use oil-based eye drops several times a day stop your eyes from drying out. Unfortunately, you can&#8217;t use them with contact lenses..<\/li>\n<li><strong> Include omega-3<\/strong>. Add foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids to your diet. You&#8217;ll find omega-three fatty acids in oily fish such as salmon, sardines, tuna, trout and anchovies, as well as in flaxseed.<\/li>\n<li><strong> Natural moisturiser. <\/strong>Before bed, use a warm damp cloth on your eyes for a few minutes. This stimulates the Meibomian glands, which provide the oily layer of our tears.<\/li>\n<li><strong> Avoid hot air<\/strong>. Avoid very warm rooms, try not to use a hair dryer and, when out and about, wear wraparound sunglasses to protect your eyes from the wind.<\/li>\n<li><strong> A humidifier at home<\/strong>. Humidifiers moisten the air, lubricate the respiratory system and create a healthier environment for our eyes.<\/li>\n<li><strong> Night eye gel<\/strong>. For severe cases you can apply ointment with paraffin, lecithin or lanolin before bed.
